Bangkok at a glance
Bangkok, the City of Angels, is a life experience. There is
a list of places that you “must” see while in Thailand’s capital and
the more you see, the more you want to come back and visit Thailand
again.
Bangkok owes much of its history to its life giving Chao Phraya
river. No longer the "Venice of the East" but the cities
foundations evolved along the banks of the river and the adjoining
canals, and to this day, Bangkok's waterways still breathe life into
the bustling city.
Bangkok in the millennium has certainly established itself as Asia's capital of cool. Excellent restaurants with quality live music, jazz
clubs, ultra cool bars, hip dance venues and cinemas are all mostly
within easy reach with Bangkok’s Sky train
network. Glamorous shopping departments with brand name bargains to
be snapped up are abundant in the capital.
Night life in Bangkok
Bangkok still has the bars which made it famous, and are complete
with pole dancing and mind boggling exotic shows. Places like
Patpong now have excellent night markets, which make the red light
areas less seedy to the family visitor, as well as a “place to be”
for the bachelor or single traveler.
Shopping hints Bangkok
Chatu-Chat weekend market :
Over
5 kms of market area with bargains galore. Buy anything from a skirt
to a snake.
Emporium Sukhumvit :
One
of Bangkok’s best shopping department stores, brand name shopping,
at discounted prices – visit the food hall!! yum yum. Located on
Sukhumvit Road.
Khao
Sarn Road :
Famed by the “Beach” movie, Khao Sarn Road is a trendy mix of back
packers – and new age travelers, with street stalls selling hip
wares, hair beading and a great selection of chill-out bars and
restaurants.
Pantip Plaza :
If
its mega bites and high tech gadgets you are seeking, then a visit
to Pantip Plaza is defiantly a must while you are in Bangkok. Build
your dream computer while you wait – many secondhand spares and
repairs also available. Located on Petchaburi Road.
Places to see in Bangkok
The grand Palace :
This is a 'must see' for all visitors to Bangkok. The famous Grand Palace
enclosure includes the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Keow)
and is unquestionably one of the wonders of the world today. You
can witness one of the most exotic Buddhist temples in Asia, and
see the holiest and most revered of religious objects in Thailand
today, the Jade Buddha.
Nearby is the Grand Palace, once the official home for the Kings of
Siam - built in traditional Thai architecture mixed with European
designs. You can also see the Royal Funeral Hall and the Royal
Coronation Hall. Also see the beautiful “Golden Buddha”
made from solid gold. ( duration 6 hrs )
Floating Market :
A
glimpse of everyday life in Thailand is a must, and can be seen at
the famous Damnern Saduak floating market. Take an exhilarating
narrow long-tailed speedboat ride through the marsh canals and see
traditional stilt houses and small villages, before arriving at this
unique market. Thai style canoes laden with colourful fruits,
vegetables, sweets and meats gently ply their way through the canal,
going about their daily business. ( duration 6 hrs )
Thai
dinner evening with traditional dance :
This evening introduces you to mystical dances of
traditional Thai culture, Delicious Thai food is served in this Thai
ambiance while you feast your eyes on the grace and beauty of the
dancers, elegantly performing stories from classical Thai literature
and folklore. These traditional colorful costumes must be captured
on still or video camera. ( Duration 4 hrs )
River and waterways cruise :
Take
a cruise by motor boat along the Chao Phya River and canals on the
West side of Bangkok. Witness Life along the river and canals in
the Orchid area.
We
also stop at the Temple of Dawn ''Wat Arun' which is one of the
city’s landmarks. We also visit the interesting Royal Barge museum.
